New Adventure - Ship/Vessel Lay Up Operation

First of All, Happy New Year to All!

May all our wishes come true this year!!!!

Let me continue with my experience sharing within this blog. While I was still engaged as the HSE Engineer I got an urgent interview session from the shipping company.

The company dealing with taking care a ship/vessel which is idling without a job but still maintenance must be carried out, and this is where this company getting their business.

Then, I realize this is  a new venture for me to join shipping or to be more specific the ship care industry. So I decide to step in for the interview and I'm so lucky that the company located just walking distance from my current company.

To cut it short, I'm selected and appointed for the job and immediate instruction is to mobilize to Labuan, East Malaysia where the company run their operation. This job is not bad at all because the offer come with transportation and accommodation package, meaning to say everything is provided.

Scope of work:

My main task is to arrange for HSE aspect for the vessel which being hand over to our company for upkeep and maintenance. Main operation normally confine space entry because the vessel rep or our staff need to go into the tank or void spaces for corrosion inspection. Therefore I will ensure the space properly ventilated and conduct gas test before any operation can be carried out. Off course prior to that, the risk assessment must be in placed. Emergency Team and emergency arrangement for the confined space operation also must be prepared beforehand to ensure safe operation.

Besides, another HSE duties involves HSE Audit, reviewing the Permit to Work and the associates
JHA.

My most memorable memories here is when I got compliment from Italian vessel rep whom thanks me because not allowing them to proceed with tank entry due to lack of oxygen detected in the tank. This is the result from their late notification on the job which causing insufficient timing for ventilation process.

Other than that I also initiate the morning mass stretching activities as per photo below with the involvement of all staff.
